Lancaster Stormers News Release
Reggie Taylor launched a two-out solo homer in the top of the tenth inning to give the Lancaster Barnstormers a 5-4 victory over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Tuesday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium.
The win was Lancaster's fifth straight to open the second half.
Taylor raked a 2-2 pitch from Bryan Dumesnil (0-1) over the deep right field boards, breaking a 4-4 deadlock that had existed since the third inning. It snapped a streak of nine consecutive outs for the Southern Maryland bullpen.
Charlie Weatherby (1-0) who came into the game in the bottom of the ninth, struck out Matt Craig swinging to open the bottom of the inning. Eric Crozier lined a single to center, the first Blue Crabs hit since the third inning, to put the tying run on base. Weatherby, however, induced Jason Lane to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to bring the night to a quick close.
Aaron Herr and Taylor singled to open the second, and the Barnstormers loaded the bases on a walk to Ryan Mulhern. Lloyd Turner gave the Barnstormers a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly to center, but starter Kenny Rayborn limited the damage to the single run.
Travis Garcia cracked a two-run homer to left center off Josh Hall in the bottom of the second, giving Southern Maryland its only lead of the night.
That lead did not last long. Michael Woods slapped a one-out single into right field in the third and raced home on a Jason Perry double into the right field corner. Herr walked to fill in first, and Rayborn got the second out of the inning as Taylor skied to left. Jed Morris, who ran for Mulhern in the second, drilled a double into left center to give Lancaster a 3-2 lead, and Herr came across with another run on a wild pitch.
Again, the Blue Crabs fought back immediately. Craig reached on a one-out error by Turner, and Crozier drew a walk. Lane grounded a single through the left side to load the bases. Garcia's sacrifice fly to left cut Lancaster's lead to one, and Jeremy Owens tied the score with a single to center.
