Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Sudbury Wolves dropped a 4-0 score in North Bay on Labour Day Monday, but, Sudbury Wolves free agent goaltender SAM TANGUAY made as statement that he wants to play for the Sudbury Wolves this season.
The Quebec City native stopped 31 shots and kept the Wolves in the contest despite being outshot 35-18. Many of Tanguay's saves were of the difficult variety as the Battalion once again had the edge in the power play department with 8 power play advantages.
"Sam was great tonight" says Wolves' Associate Coach David Matsos. "Sam kept us in the game as long as he could. Our young players showed signs of fatigue as the game wore-on and we started taking some bad penalties. We will work on a number of areas this week including: minimizing our turnovers, better team defensive play and team discipline. We will be a better team on Friday at home."
The Wolves trailed 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after the second period. With the Wolves on the power play in the third period, North Bay scored a short-handed goal as Brett MacKenzie slipped the puck past Wolves' defender Evan deHaan and fired a hard slap-shot past Tanguay. MacKenzie was a one-man wrecking crew as the Battalion's star-forward had two goals and one assist and was named the game's 1st star.
The Wolves once again featured a rookie-laden line-up as the Wolves only dressed seven returning veterans while the Battalion dressed ten returning veteran players. The Wolves only dressed one returning defenceman - Evan de Haan in this contest. Rookie defencemen: Austin Clapham, Chase Hawley, Khadyn Butterfly, Trenton Bourque and Jonathan Masters all played in the game. A total of 1,456 fans were in attendance for the game In North Bay.
The Wolves now have 28 players remaining in camp as they prepare for five more exhibition games beginning Friday, September 5th when the Wolves' host the Soo Greyhounds at 7:30. Tickets are now on sale at the Sudbury Arena ticket office.
