Plymouth Whalers News Release
PLYMOUTH - Over the years, the Plymouth Whalers have forged a unique partnership with the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park.
The younger Whalers attend high school at the 305 acre campus site in western Wayne County which houses three high schools - Plymouth, Salem and Canton - at the same campus. Plymouth Whalers Educational Consultant John Seidleman is a retired PCEP professional who has done an outstanding job as a liaison between the Whalers and the PCEP.
In addition, the Whalers joined forces with 88.1FM WSDP The Park (located on the PCEP campus) several seasons ago for live broadcasts of Plymouth games. The Whalers continue on 88.1FM this year, starting with the broadcast of the team's Alumni game on Aug. 16.
The synergy between the PCEP and the Whalers reaches to a new level on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7 pm at Compuware Arena when Plymouth hosts Saginaw.
Called "P-C-S Fundraising Night", 100% of the ticket sales proceeds benefit teams and activities at Plymouth-Canton Educational Park. Tickets run $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Compuware Arena box office or online at compuwarearena.com. Tickets run $12 at the door the date of the game.
In addition, school groups and individuals looking to participate can purchase tickets at WSDP by calling 734-416-7732.
Although the game may be just another preseason tilt to be played in preparation for the upcoming OHL season, the atmosphere at Compuware Arena on Sept. 6 may resemble a high-school event, with a pep band, cheerleaders and plenty of enthusiasm.
For parents, the game presents an opportunity for their kids to come to a local event close to home.
For athletic teams and other student groups within the PCEP, the game offers the opportunity to raise needed funds for the upcoming school year.
"The Whalers are incredibly generous to offer this fundraising opportunity for our teams and student groups," said Bill Keith, a teacher at PCEP and WSDP Station Manager. "Developing fundraisers that payoff is always a challenge and this one has the potential to raise a lot of money for students at the Park."
"We want Compuware Arena to be the place for PCEP students to be on Sept. 6," said Denise Ronayne, Plymouth Whalers Sales and Marketing Director.
The game is a potential competition between various groups at PCEP. The two groups that sell the most tickets will also receive the opportunity to raise additional money through the 50/50 Raffle and Chuck-a-Puck sales the night of the game.
The Whalers are looking for student groups, cheerleaders, pom-pom teams and student choirs to perform prior to the game and during the intermission. Students and groups interested in performing can contact Bill Keith at WSDP by calling 734-416-7732.
