PEORIA, Ill. (February 22, 2009) - Julian Talbot got the last laugh in a 2-1 overtime win for the Peoria Rivermen over the Quad City Flames on Sunday at Carver Arena. It was his 15th goal of the season and his second game-winner after Kevin Lalande made 33 saves to force overtime with the Rivermen.

The win snapped the Flames' franchise record six-game winning streak as Ben Bishop stopped 20 shots in the contest. It was the first win for Bishop since he last defeated the Flames on Feb. 6. Peoria improved their record to 28-27-2 overall and an impressive 6-1-0 against the Flames this season. Both teams entered the game tied in the standings with 56 points.

Talbot's goal occurred 15 minutes after he was hit violently into the boards by J.D. Watt at 11:41 of the third period. Watt was assessed a five-minute major for boarding and a game-misconduct that created a lengthy power-play opportunity for the Rivermen that backfired and led to the game-tying goal for Flames.

Warren Peters' shorthanded goal with 4:54 left in regulation erased a Rivermen lead that had stood since the opening minutes of the first period. Trent Whitfield's 16th of the season at 1:28 of the opening frame put the Rivermen in front. Carl Corazzini's wrist shot missed the net and after bouncing off the end-wall caromed to the side of the goal for Whitfield. It was the first point for Corazzini as a member of the Rivermen, following a midweek reassignment from Springfield.

Peoria had just less than 7 minutes of consecutive power-play time in the final half of the third period, including a pair of 5-on-3's but had nothing to show for their 12 third-period shots on Lalonde. Talbot backhanded home the game winner from the left circle at 3:01 of overtime.

It was the third win of the season in overtime for Peoria and second against Quad City. The overtime loss was the sixth for the Flames on the year. Peoria was 0-for-5 on the power play for the second straight night while the Flames did not score on their two chances.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday, March 4 at Carver Arena.
