
Bulldogs caged by Crunch in 3-1 loss

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Syracuse Crunch 3-1 on Sunday night in front of 4,838 at Copps Coliseum. Dan LaCosta made 34 saves for the Crunch in the win.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 15:10 of the first frame. David Desharnais skated behind the net before sending a pass to Ryan Kinasewich, who was stationed in front of the net. Kinasewich fired a shot that beat Syracuse starting goaltender Dan LaCosta. The goal was the 3000th regular season goal scored by the Bulldogs. Andrew Conboy also earned an assist on the goal, his first-career AHL point.
Nikita Filatov was given a penalty shot after being taken down. Filatov backhanded the puck between the legs of Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis but the puck hit the post to keep the game 1-0 for the Bulldogs.
Syracuse tied the game while on the power play at 19:57 of the middle frame. While positioned at the top of the right circle, Derek MacKenzie received a pass from Mike York. MacKenzie rifled a shot through traffic in front of the net and the puck sailed past Denis.
The Crunch took a 2-1 lead at 9:53 of the final frame. Filatov skated in on a two-on-one with Nick Holden, where Filatov sent a pass to Holden. The pass hit Holden's skate before the defenceman kicked the puck to his stick. Holden proceeded to backhand the puck in the net for the goal. Syracuse increased their lead to 3-1 at 14:41. Michael Blunden fired a shot that was saved by Denis. The rebound bounced onto the stick of Steve Kelly, who shot the puck past a sprawling Denis.
The Bulldogs return to the ice on Friday, February 27th when they host the Rochester Americans for a 7:30 p.m. game at Copps Coliseum.
