Albany Devils News Release
LOWELL, Mass. - Michael Swift's goal with just 21.4 seconds remaining in overtime gave the Lowell Devils a 4-3 win over the Worcester Sharks on Sunday at the Tsongas Arena. Tied in the standings coming into today's game, the victory allows the Devils to inch ahead into sole possession of fourth place in the Atlantic Division.
After a scoreless third period left the game tied, 3-3, the two teams headed into the extra session. Skating on a delayed penalty, Nicklas Bergfors stickhandled through traffic in the slot and reversed a pass to the near post that Swift tapped by goalie Thomas Greiss.
The Devils were first on the board, 1-0, at 2:43 of the opening period when Stephen Gionta brought the puck out from the back of the net and fed it across the crease for a Rod Pelley redirection and his first tally of the game.
The Sharks evened the score as Tom Cavanaugh won a face-off directly to Riley Armstrong, who swiftly put it past Jeff Frazee at 7:00 of the first.
On a delayed call midway through the same period, Mike Moore jumped off the bench to pick up a loose puck in the Lowell zone and maneuvered toward the front before tucking it through the five-hole of Frazee.
The Devils evened the score, 2-2, with 2:22 left until the intermission almost immediately following a Worcester four-minute power play. Getting back to even strength, Lowell broke up ice on a 3-on-2 rush that Rod Pelley completed for his 13th goal on the season.
The Devils regained the lead, 3-2, 1:53 into the second period when Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond won a battle behind Greiss and centered in front to Matt Halischuk who shelved his 11th of the year.
Worcester tied the game for the second time when Ryan Vesce scored a power play goal on a long rebound from Frazee at 5:41 in the second period.
Frazee otherwise stopped 28-for-31 for his 22nd victory of the year. The Devils were 0-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Lowell Devils complete their home-and-home series against the Sharks on Wednesday, February 25 at 7:05 p.m. in Worcester. Listen to the game live on 980AM-WCAP or ahllive.com.
