Tacoma Defiance News Release
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. - Tacoma Defiance (8-11-6, 30 points) fell 3-1 to Sacramento Republic FC (8-10-8, 32 points) at Heart Health Park Saturday evening. With the loss, Tacoma currently sits in seventh place in the Pacific Division standings, two points out of a playoff spot with at least one game in hand on every other team in the division.
Sacramento got on the board first in the eighth minute. Cameron Iwasa received a ball from Duke Lacroix inside the area, and was able to dribble through two Defiance defenders and slot a shot past Christian Herrera for the early goal. The home side doubled its lead in the 66th minute when Emil Cuello was fed a through ball, got past a Tacoma defender and finished one-on-one against Herrera.
Tacoma quickly answered in stunning fashion when a gorgeous free kick from Alex Villanueva curled into the top right corner in the 72nd minute to cut Sacramento's lead in half.
Republic FC bagged another when Luis Felipe's effort from just beyond midfield caught Herrera off his line and scored from long range.
Wade Webber's side faces a quick turnaround as it travels to Austin Bold FC on Wednesday, October 6 (6:00 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
