
Toros Defeat Real Monarchs 3-0 at Home

EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (10-10-7; 37 pts.) earn a 3-0 win over Real Monarchs SLC (4-18-5; 17 pts.) 3-2 on late Saturday night at H-E-B Park.
The Toros earned the lead in the 28th minute following a corner after Elvis Amoh was able to capitalize on a failed attempt to save the ball by Jeffrey Dewsnup. Amoh was able to send the ball to the bottom left corner of the goal, 1-0, to score his 10th goal of the 2021 campaign.
In the 42nd minute, Jonas Fjeldberg managed to send a cross inside the box connecting with Carter Manley. Manley was then able to head the ball to the back of the net to score the second goal of the match 2-0.
The third goal by the Toros came in the second half in the 76th minute after Rodrigo Lopez sent a pass to Fjeldberg at the center of the box. Fjeldberg then struck a midair shot to the top left corner, 3-0.
After nearly two hours of rain delay, the match was able to kick off where RGV FC dominated the first half. In the 5th minute, Amoh had an opportunity after Baboucarr Njie sent a pass inside the box allowing Amoh to send a shot but was blocked by former Toros player Kyle Adams.
In the 17th minute Frank Lopez was left alone inside the box and attempted to strike but Dewsnup blocked the attempt.
After returning from the half, Fjeldberg had a dangerous strike in the 58th minute but was saved at the bottom left corner. Four minutes later, Christian Sorto sent a backheel shot but missed to the right.
In the 67th minute Frank Lopez sent a long shot from outside the box where the ball bounced off of Dewsnup causing Emilio Ycaza to attempt to put the ball away but was called. At the 90th minute, Leo Torres took a left footed shot from the left side of the box but missed to the left.
Overall, the Toros had 17 total shots, eight on target while Real Monarchs totaled three shots with zero on target. RGV FC held 57.5% possession throughout the game, limiting the opportunities for Salt Lake.
Tyler Deric held the sixth clean sheet of the season. Juan Carlos Azocar totaled five tackles and an interception tonight as he played as a defender. Manley totaled four tackles, three clearances and three interceptions while scoring his second goal of the season.
Fjeldberg totaled four shots, three on target and two key passes, one as an assist. Lopez totaled three shots, three on target.
