T-Bones Win Rain-Shortened Contest, 8-6

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Kansas City T-Bones (17-20) scored six times over their final three innings, taking an 8-6 lead before Mother Nature forced an early exit as they defeated the Schaumburg Flyers (19-18) by that score in a six-inning contest at Alexian Field.
Craig Hurba gave Kansas City a quick 2-0 lead with a two-out, two-run home run off Tom Lyons (1-3) in the top of the first inning. Schaumburg answered with four runs on four hits against Dustin Bolton (2-2) in the bottom half of the frame. Jose Valdez drove in the first run with an RBI single and scored the second tally on a single by Victor Ferrante. Jason Colson plated the third run with an RBI single of his own and capped off the inning when he came home on a bases-loaded walk by Richard Mercado.
Bolton allowed just three hits over the next four innings to give his offense time to rally.
The T-Bones pulled even with two runs in the fourth, the first coming on an RBI double by Jim Fasano. Mark Minicozzi plated Fasano with a single to tie the game at four.
After two one-out singles in the fifth, Hurba chased Lyons from the game with a three-run shot, his second of the contest. The blast gave Kansas City a 7-4 advantage. Lyons suffered the loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits over four and one-thirds innings.
Minicozzi capped off the T-Bones scoring with a solo shot off reliever Garrett Rieck in the top of the sixth.
Schaumburg used an RBI fielder's choice by Travis Ezi and a sacrifice fly by Vince Harrison to pull within two, 8-6, and chase Bolton from the game in the sixth. Weston Curles induced a groundout from Felix Jose to end the threat.
Bolton earned the victory after allowing six runs on nine hits over five and two-thirds innings. Curles picked up the save after retiring the only batter he faced.
Rains moved in prior to the top of the seventh, and after a delay of more than an hour, forced the game's completion.
Kansas City goes for the sweep tomorrow afternoon as the T-Bones send Ryan Knippschild (1-1, 3.41) to the mound to face Schaumburg's Carmen Pignatiello (3-2, 5.36) in a battle of southpaws. First pitch is set for 1:20.
