Kansas City Monarchs News Release

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A season-high crowd of 7,006 witnessed a second straight standout performance from the T-Bones pitching staff Saturday evening at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, as Kansas City (7-9) built a five-run advantage and held on for a 5-3 win over the visiting Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (11-5).

Fargo-Moorhead starter Brandon Culp worked himself into a jam in the third, walking four hitters, including Greg Jacobs with the bases loaded to give the T-Bones a 1-0 lead. Charles Peterson delivered the big blow in the inning with a two-run single to center to stake Kansas City to a 3-0 advantage.

The T-Bones added to their lead in the fourth on a sacrifice-fly from Doug Dreher that scored Craig Hurba. Jacobs followed with an RBI-single to center, bringing home Brandon Jones and extending the lead to 5-0.

With its offense clicking, Kansas City also received another shutout effort from its starting pitcher, as Larry Robles (3-1) won his third straight start, holding the RedHawks to just five hits over seven innings of work. Ryan Tauscher relieved Robles in the eighth and quickly worked himself into a jam in his first appearance at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The left-hander gave up a pair of walks and a single before giving way to James Morrison. Ruben Salazar then cleared the bases with a three-run double that ended the T-Bones' streak of 19 straight scoreless innings before Morrison and Byron Embry combined to retire the next three RedHawks to end the threat and preserve the 5-3 lead.

Embry struggled with his command in the ninth, walking the bases loaded before coaxing a Salazar fly ball to wrap up his third save of the season.

The T-Bones and RedHawks will conclude their three-game series Sunday at 5:05 p.m. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. RHP Greg Bicknell (1-2, 5.20) will get the start for the T-Bones, while RHP Mark Michael (2-0, 1.76) will toe the rubber for Fargo-Moorhead.
