
Calgary Beats Joliet 14-7 On Saturday

CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA-The JackHammers fell victim to errors once again on Saturday, allowing four unearned runs to score in 14-7 defeat to the Calgary Vipers at Foothills Stadium. For the JackHammers, the losing streak extends to five games with the loss.
The JackHammers scored four runs in the second inning off Evan Greusel. With two outs in the inning, J.D. Foust hit a single. He went to second on a single by Dennis Blackmon, Jr. and reached third base when an error by Calgary centerfielder Yosvany Almario allowed Foust to score to make it 1-0 Joliet.
Blackmon, Jr. went to second base on the error. He scored on a double by Billy Boyer to make it 2-0 Joliet. Boyer scored on a single by Mike Goss. Goss swiped second base and scored on a double by John Lackaff. Joliet had a 4-0 lead through an inning and a half.
Calgary cut the lead in half with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Aaron McEachran doubled off of Luis Villareal, the JackHammers starter. McEachran went to third on the single by Carlos Duncan. He scored when Adam Shorsher reached base on an error by Billy Boyer. Joliet's lead was 4-2 after two innings.
The Vipers pushed four runs across home plate against Luis Villarreal in the third inning and three more in the fourth inning. Errors came back to hurt the JackHammers. Of the nine runs that Villarreal gave up in his four innings on the mound, only five were earned. Villarreal (0-2) after allowing nine runs on nine hits in four innings on the mound.
The JackHammers did not score another run until the sixth inning. By then Calgary was on it's third pitcher. Evan Greusel started the game and went two innings, allowing the four Joliet runs in the second inning. Brad Rogers pitched three scoreless innings and gave way to Justin Dowdy in the seventh. The left-hander gave up three straight singles to Kyle Nichols, J.D. Foust, and Dennis Blackmon, Jr. respectively. The bases were loaded with nobody out for Billy Boyer, who grounded out to bring home Nichols and cut the deficit to 9-5.
Eddie Romprey made his first appearance of the season for the JackHammers and relieved Luis Villareal in the fifth. He allowed five runs on four hits in three innings on the mound before yielding to Victor Kleine, who pitched the eighth inning and allowed just one hit. The JackHammers fall to 4-10 with the loss.
