Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A walk-off single by Jimmy Mojica gave the Kansas City T-Bones (41-26) a 3-2 victory over the Joliet JackHammers (35-32) in front of 5,915 fans Thursday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Kansas City began the ninth down by a run, but following back-to-back singles, Brian Joynt's fielder's choice tied the score at two. Ryan Fox doubled to chase Joliet closer Griffin Bailey (2-3) before an intentional walk of Eladio Rodriguez by William Jackel loaded the bases with one out. Mojica then connected with his single to give the T-Bones their first walk-off victory of the season, and their first win when trailing after seven innings.
Devin Anderson was stellar for Joliet, surrendering one run to Kansas City on a single by Jim Fasano in the first inning. Anderson allowed just three hits over his seven innings, all coming with two outs the first. The left-hander retired the final 13 batters he faced, and 19 of the final 20. He walked just one while striking out five in a no-decision.
T-Bones starter Reid Santos scattered nine hits over eight solid innings, striking out two, but did not factor into the decision. He allowed a run in the fourth on an RBI single by Jon Nelson and one in the fifth on an RBI single by Jonathan Wyatt, giving Joliet a 2-1 lead.
Drew Graham started the ninth and retired one batter while walking two. Drew Shetrone (1-0) took over for Graham, and after Joliet loaded the bases with two outs, induced a flyout to center to end the threat.
Fasano and Ray Sadler each went two-for-four to pace Kansas City.
The T-Bones will now travel to Winnipeg to begin a seven-game road trip. Kansas City left-hander Kevin Light (2-0, 2.55) is scheduled to start opposite right-hander Jason Mackintosh (1-2, 4.79). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. Catch all the action online at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
