T-Bones Force Rubber Match with 21-Hit Attack

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones (28-17) recorded 21 hits en route to a 13-9 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes (25-20) Tuesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

In front of 4,119 fans, Juan Diaz hit a solo home run in the first off T-Bones starter Steven Stewart, giving Winnipeg the early lead. Kansas City answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run by Rico Washington and an RBI double by Joynt off Goldeyes starter Chris Salamida (6-3).

Luis Alen homered to start the third, and Diaz hit an RBI single, regaining the lead for Winnipeg at 3-2. An RBI groundout by Ray Sadler in the bottom of the third tied the game at three.

The Goldeyes batted around in the fourth to take a 7-3 lead, scoring four runs on five hits, highlighted by a solo home run by Justin Justice. Stewart exited in favor of Kevin Light (2-0) with one out in the frame, allowing seven runs on nine hits in three and one-thirds innings. He did not factor into the decision.

Kansas City answered with five runs in the bottom half of the fourth, using six singles in the inning to take an 8-7 lead. Salamida left with two outs in the frame, surrendering eight runs on 12 hits while taking the loss.

The T-Bones added to their lead in the fifth when Keith Hernandez scored on a wild pitch and Sadler drove in another with a single, giving Kansas City a 10-7 advantage. Jim Fasano's RBI single increased the lead to 11-7 after seven.

Erik Hamren entered after Light allowed a one-out single in the eighth. Hamren gave up a home run to Alen, the first batter he faced, to cut the T-Bones lead to 11-9. Light earned the win with four solid innings of relief, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out four.

Ryan Fox homered in the eighth, and an RBI double by Jacob Blackwood plated one more, capping the score at 13-9.

Six T-Bones finished with three hits, and Washington finished a double short of the cycle. Four drove in multiple runs.

Kansas City sends left-hander Ryan Knippschild (6-3, 3.81) to the mound opposite right-hander Ace Walker (3-2, 3.26) and the Goldeyes in the rubber match of the three-game series.
