Stout, JackHammers Clip Fielders, 4-3

ZION, IL - The Joliet JackHammers (22-22) picked up their third straight victory, downing the Lake County Fielders (16-26) 4-3 Tuesday night in Zion. The JackHammers will look for the sweep tomorrow at 4:45 p.m.

Ross Stout (3-5) guided the JackHammers to the win, scattering two runs on six hits over seven innings. Griffin Bailey locked down the save in the ninth with Lake County threatening. Kyle Higgins and Joe Ramos singled to put runners at the corners with one out. Brandon Anderson lifted a sacrifice fly to center and Amos Ramon struck with the tying at first for the 4-3 final.

The JackHammers took the lead for good in the third, erasing a 1-0 deficit. Ryan Wehrle led off with a single against Ryan Bicondoa (1-3) and scored on a Jonathan Wyatt double to tie the game at one. Kevin Rios put Joliet at in front at 2-1 with a run scoring single.

Bicondoa went the distance allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits with six strikeouts in the nine innings. The JackHammers added solo tallies in the fourth and fifth against the right-hander, scoring on a Jon Nelson home run and another RBI single from Rios.

The Fielders would again threaten late, only to have the JackHammer bullpen slam the door. Stout gave up a leadoff double to Ramos and walked Anderson to start the eighth inning. Michael Rocco came on and retired Ramon before Josh Short cut the lead to 4-2 with a single. Jeff Dunbar collected an infield single to load the bases with two outs, but Rocco induced a groundball off the bat of Anthony Esquer to preserve the lead.

Nelson and Rios each picked up two hits with Rios driving home a game high two runs. Dunbar knocked in one and went 3-4 for Lake County in the setback.

The JackHammers improved to 6-2 against Lake County this season and will look for the three game sweep tomorrow. Todd Privett (3-3) will go up against Zach Ward (2-5). Game time is slated for 4:45 p.m. with a 4:35 p.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.

Loose Gravel:

- The JackHammers homered in their fifth straight contest, the longest streak of the season

- Roberto Mena went 0-4 and saw his 11 game hitting streak come to an end

- Jon Nelson's home run gives him 12 this season, second most in the league
