Lake County Fielders News Release
Zion, IL - Fielders' starting pitcher, Ryan Bicondoa, and Joliet's starting pitcher, Ross Stout battled it out in a strong outing tonight where the JackHammers came out on top 4-3 over the Fielders (16-26).
The Fielders jumped on the board early in the bottom of the first off an RBI single off the bat of Jeff Dunbar to score Amos Ramon who had reached on a stand up double earlier in the inning.
The JackHammers (22-22) came back in their half of the third, scoring two runs to take the lead. Ryan Wehrle lined into right field for a lead off single and was brought around on an RBI double from Jonathon Wyatt. Kevin Rios then singled to score Wyatt. Catcher Anthony Esquer picked off Rios at first to end the inning.
Joliet added another run in the fourth off a solo homerun from Jon Nelson, his second in as many days. Rios hit his second RBI of the night in the bottom of the fifth to score catcher Joe Billick from second. Billick reached after Kyle Higgins made a leaping catch to retire Wyatt, but overthrew to first on his attempt at the double play.
Joe Ramos lead off the eighth inning with a double for the Fielders Brandon Anderson followed with a walk, chasing Stout who threw for 7.0 inning, giving up six hits, two earned runs, and striking out four. Josh Short then ripped an RBI double off Mike Rocco to score Ramos. Short went two for three on the night with one RBI.. Jeff Dunbar, who went three for four with one RBI, singled to load the bases, but an Anthony Esquer fielder's choice left the runners stranded.
The Fielders tacked on another run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Anderson to score Higgins who bounced an infield single off closer Griffin Bailey. But that would be it for the Fielders, falling 4-3 in game two of the three game series.
Stout took the win for the JackHammers, while Bailey earned the save, his fifth of the year. Bicondoa fell to 1-3 with the loss, but pitched his second complete game of the season. He gave up nine hits, four runs (three earned) and struck out six.
The Fielders wrap up the series tomorrow in Zion, looking to get back in the win column. Fielders RHP Zach Ward will take the mound.
