Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, ND - Kansas City (15-11) scored six runs in the opening three innings on their way to a 6-4 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in front of 3,069 fans at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday night.

After Benji Waite gave up four runs in the top half of the first inning, Brennan Metzger led off the home half of the first with a shot to left field for his third home run of the season. Metzger went 2-4 with a walk and home run tonight.

Tommy Mendonca was the only other RedHawks batter with two hits tonight. His double in the fourth inning scored Keury De La Cruz from third base - one of three F-M runs in the inning. The RedHawks trailed 6-4 after four but couldn't get anything else across as the Kansas City bullpen shut down any chance of a comeback.

Waite got the loss for the RedHawks after giving up six runs on 10 hits in three innings pitched and is now 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in four starts this season.

Reese Gregory pitched a stellar 5.2 innings in relief of Waite. The St. Cloud State alumnus gave up no runs on five hits over that span to keep the RedHawks close. Gregory is 0-1 with a 1.35 ERA in six games so far this season.

The RedHawks didn't lose any traction in the standings tonight as both St. Paul, Winnipeg, and Gary all lost their respective matchups. Fargo-Moorhead will look to even the series with Kansas City tomorrow night at 6 PM.
