
T-Birds take down Americans

Seattle, March 27, 2007 - The Seattle Thunderbirds beat the Tri-City Americans 3-1 Tuesday night in front of 2,620 at KeyArena in Game 3 of their best-of-seven first round playoff series.
Seattle has a 2-1 lead in the series.
The puck drops in Game 4 on Wednesday, March 28, in KeyArena at 7:05 p.m.
The T-Birds took the lead at 14:21 of the first period on a power- play goal from Brett Robertson. Aaron Gagnon won the face off at the left dot in the American zone and slid the puck back to Robertson just left of the point. Robertson unleashed a slap shot that beat Tri-City goaltender Carey Price high on the glove side for the 1-0 lead. The goal was Robertson's second of the playoffs.
Tri-City and Seattle each had 10 shots on goal in the opening period.
Tri-City outshot Seattle 12-10 in a scoreless second period. The Americans led 22-20 through two periods.
The T-Birds made it 2-0 at 7:37 of the third on a goal from Radek Meidl. On the power-play, the T-Birds controlled the puck on a 3-on-2 break. Thomas Hickey hit Andre Herman in the slot. Herman put a shot on net that hit Price in the chest and fell loose into the crease on the right side. Meidl skated in and put it past Price low at the right post for his second goal of the playoffs.
The T-Birds added another at 7:56 of the third on an unassisted goal from Lindsay Nielsen. Nielsen stole the puck in the Seattle zone and raced down the left boards with a defender on his right hip. Nielsen fired an off-balance shot that hit the skate of an American player and snuck in past Price at the left post.
The Americans (1-2) put one on the board at 13:34 of the third on a power-play goal from Shaun Vey.
Tri-City outshot Seattle 8-6 in the third and 30-26 on the night.
Seattle goalie Derek Yeomans turned away 29 of 30 shots and improved his playoff record to 2-1.
Price stopped 23 of 26 shots as his playoff record falls to 1-2.
