Everett Silvertips News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips lost to the Spokane Chiefs 3-2 on Tuesday night, March 27th. For the Silvertips it marks their first loss of the playoffs; their fourth loss overall this season in five trips to the Spokane Arena. However, the Silvertips still maintain a 2-1 lead in the series.
The first few minutes of play went well for Everett, but that quickly would begin to change. Spokane's first goal came on the power play when a deflected puck was collected by Derek Ryan who put it past Silvertips goaltender Leland Irving at 5:09. Then late in the period things got worse. Ondrej Roman beat Irving with a wrister at 13:48, and then less than two-and-a-half minutes later Adam Hobson scored at 16:05 on a partial breakaway. Following that third goal, David Reekie was substituted into goal for Irving.
Following a second period in which neither team scored and both sides had an unsuccessful power play, Everett got the final period started off the right way. Needing a good start to attempt a comeback, Dan Gendur scored his first goal of the playoffs just 1:04 into the third. It was persistence by Gendur as he scored on his second rebound attempt following a Dane Crowley shot from up top in the Chiefs zone. The first stuff-in attempt was denied by Spokane goalie Dustin Tokarski, but Gendur put his second attempt upstairs. The secondary assist went to Zach Hamill.
The Silvertips continued to press for the duration of the period and shortly after pulling Reekie for the extra attacker Gendur would strike again. The puck was down low in the Spokane zone with players from both sides battling to gain control. Gendur made his way into the slot and that's where he was when Peter Mueller was the first to earn command of the puck. He threw it out to Gendur who slammed the puck past Tokarski. Moises Gutierrez was scored with the secondary assist.
The series will remain in Spokane for game four tomorrow night, March 28th. Game time inside of the Spokane Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Game five will be at home Friday night, March 30th, inside of the Everett Events Center. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:35 p.m.
