Seattle Thunderbirds News Release
PRINCE ALBERT, SK - The Seattle Thunderbirds started their six-game road trip through the East Division with a convincing 6-2 win over the Prince Albert Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre.
Six different T-Birds scored a goal in the win and Taran Kozun made 33 saves to get his eight win of the season. The six goals was a season high for the T-Birds.
The T-Birds second game on this six-game road trip is Saturday against the Saskatoon Blades at 5pm in Saskatoon.
Seattle took a 3-0 lead just over six minutes into the game with three goals in 1:18.
Lane Pederson scored at 4:59 to get the T-Birds on the board. Ryan Gropp moved the puck up the right boards in the offensive zone to Evan Wardley just inside the blue line in the center of the ice. Wardley took a wrist shot from the left point with traffic in front of Prince Albert goalie Nick McBride. Wardley's shot was blocked in the crease as McBride came out of his net to make the save. Pederson got the loose puck to the right of the net and put it over a lunging McBride for his third goal of the season.
Seattle (8-6-2-1) struck 58 seconds after Pederson's goal to take a 2-0 lead. Kaden Elder took a pass from Turner Ottenbreit in the neutral zone and sped into the Raiders zone. Elder charged to the net, was tripped up, and as he was falling lifted the puck over McBride's right shoulder for the goal. It was Elder's first career goal.
Just 20 seconds later Ethan Bear put the T-Birds in front 3-0. Scott Eansor moved the puck from along the boards on the left side to Bear at the left point. Bear skated along blue line and put a wrist shot on goal with traffic in front of McBride. Bear's shot beat the goalie low for his second goal of the season.
Both teams had nine shots on goal in the first period.
The T-Birds took a 4-0 lead 38 seconds into the second period. Just after a T-Birds penalty ended Eansor centered the puck from behind the Raiders goal to Kolesar in the slot. Kolesar ripped a wrist shot past McBride, off the right post and into the net for his fifth goal of the season.
Prince Albert replaced McBride with Rylan Parenteau after Seattle's fourth goal. McBride made six saves on 10 shots in just over 20 minutes of actio and his record fell to 6-8-0-0 with the loss.
Midway through the second period the T-Birds extended the lead to 5-0. Ryan Gropp broke up the right wing on a three-on-one break. Gropp skated through the right circle, looked to his left, and then put a wrist shot on goal. Gropp beat Parenteau over the glove for his eighth of the season.
Prince Albert (8-11-0-0) got on the board at 12:08 of the second on a goal from Sawyer Lange. Simon Stransky and Reid Gardiner had the assists.
Prince Albert outshot Seattle 12-11 in the second period and led 21-20 in shots after two periods.
The Raiders scored a power-play goal 1:10 into the third period to cut the T-Birds lead to three goals. Jayden Hart got the goal on assists from Stransky and Gardiner.
Seattle got their sixth goal of the game at 18:10 of the third just after a power play ended. Ryan Gropp centered the puck from the right circle through the slot to Alexander True to the left of the net. True shot the puck past Parenteau as the goalie came across the crease to try and make the save. Pederson had the second assist on True's fourth goal of the season.
Price Albert outshot Seattle 14-5 in the third period and 35-25 in the game.
Parenteau had 13 saves on 15 shots.
