SPRINGFIELD, MA, March 16, 2010 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds led for much of the game, but the Springfield Armor battled back and ultimately notched a 108-104 win on Tuesday night. Trey Gilder led the way for Albuquerque with 25 points and 9 rebounds.
Shane Edwards scored 22 points and grabbed 6 rebounds for Albuquerque, and Keith McLeod added 20 points and 6 assists in the T-Birds loss.
The game was even with 2:33 to go in the second quarter, but the T-Birds closed the half on an 11-2 run to take a 58-49 lead into halftime. Albuquerque continued its run in the third quarter, and pushed the lead to 17 with 4:28 remaining in the period.
Despite the huge deficit, the Armor would not go quietly in the second half. Springfield chipped away at the T-Birds' lead, and ultimately tied the game with 4:58 remaining in the fourth quarter, 93-93. The game's final four minutes featured five ties and five lead changes, with neither team leading by more than four.
Justin Hawkins led the way for Springfield with 26 points, while Kyle McAlarney added 21 for the Armor.
Both teams shot well from the floor, with the T-Birds (50.0%) and Armor (50.6%) both connecting on more than half of their shots. The game featured 14 ties and 14 lead changes in total.
The team will be in action again tomorrow night when they travel to Portland, Maine to take on the Red Claws. The game will begin at 5:30 PM, and fans can listen in to the action live on 610 The Sports Animal.
