Syracuse Deals PawSox a Road Loss

The Syracuse Chiefs erupted for 5 runs in the seventh inning on Monday night in New York State, beating the PawSox, 11-7. The loss snaps Pawtuckets' 5 game winnng streak. The PawSox are now at 45-26, still 4 games ahead of second place Lehigh Valley. Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Ryan Lavarnway hit his seventh homer of the year, a solo shot. In the sixth, Josh Kroeger belted a two run home run, his ninth of 2012. Trailing 4-3 in the seventh, Nate Spears gave the PawSox their only lead of the night with a three run home run to make it 6-4. The lead didn't last long as the Chiefs scored 7 unanswered run over the next two innings. Despite the loss, Pawtucket is still a league-best 21-14 on the road.

Aaron Cook made the rehab start, allowing 3 runs in 4 innings. Tony Pena (0-5) took the loss. Alex Wilson and Mark Prior each surrendered a pair of runs. For Wilson, one was earned. Prior gave up a two run homer to Xavier Paul. He fanned four hitters in an inning and a third.

The series continues on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Doug Mathis (5-3) faces lefthander Zach Duke (7-3).
