Fukudome Scheduled to Begin Rehab with Knights Tonight

(Fort Mill, SC) - Chicago White Sox outfielder Kosuke Fukudome, who was placed on the disabled list with a strained right oblique on June 7 (retroactive to June 4), will begin a Major League rehab assignment with the Charlotte Knights at Knights Stadium tonight when the club hosts the Columbus Clippers in the opening game of their four-game series.

Fukudome, 35, is in his first season with the White Sox. The Osaki, Japan native spent the 2011 season with both Chicago (NL) and Cleveland. He hit .273 with three home runs and 13 RBIs in 87 games with the Cubs before being traded to the Indians on July 28, 2011. He hit .249 with five home runs and 22 RBIs in 59 games for Cleveland.

The 6'0" outfielder was a star in the Japanese Central League, hitting .305 with 192 home runs, 647 RBIs and 713 runs scored in 1,074 games over nine seasons (1999-2007). In 2006, he was the Japanese Central League MVP after hitting .351 with 31 home runs and 104 RBIs.

Fukudome made his Major League debut in 2008 after signing a four-year contract with the Cubs. In parts of four seasons with the Chicago, Fukudome hit .262 with 37 home runs and 169 RBIs over 513 games.
