November 2, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch are holding their annual Movember Mustache Challenge throughout the month of November to raise funds for prostate cancer research at Upstate University Hospital and spread awareness of the disease, which affects one in seven men. The team will kick off their fundraising campaign with the Movember game on Saturday, Nov. 5 against the Utica Comets.

Throughout the month of November, also known as Movember, Syracuse Crunch players and front office staff members will grow mustaches as part of this fundraising initiative and best-mustache competition. The players and staff are divided into two teams, lead by Dominik Masin for the Mustache Masin and Ben Thomas for Team Fuzzy Muzzies. The team captains drafted their best mustache-growing team and will compete against each other for fan votes. Fans are encouraged to vote for the team with the best mustaches by donating to the team's GoFundMe page.

Fans may visit the Crunch website to view photos of the teams and place their votes through monetary donations. Photos will be updated throughout the month.

Each team will compete to raise the most funds between now and Nov. 30. All donations will benefit the Prostate Cancer Care and Research Fund at Upstate. The team that collects the most donations by midnight on Nov. 30 will be declared the winner. The Crunch will present a check to the Prostate Cancer Care and Research Fund at Upstate at the end of the month.

During the Movember game on Nov. 5, the Crunch will hold a post-game auction on the ice. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on game-worn Luke Witkowski and Gabriel Dumont Crunch jerseys along with a game-worn Joel Vermin Tampa Bay Lightning jersey. All proceeds will benefit the Prostate Cancer Care and Research Fund at Upstate. The Crunch will also have items up on the team's auction site throughout the month with a portion of proceeds going toward the Movember Mustache Challenge. Auction items will include game-worn equipment and Crunch and Lightning team-signed items.

Along with donations and auctions, fans may help support the Movemeber Mustache Challenge fundraising initiative by purchasing tickets to the Movember game on Nov. 5. Tickets are $18, with $4 from each ticket going toward the Prostate Cancer Care and Research Fund at Upstate University Hospital. To purchase $18 tickets to the Movember game, visit the Crunch office or call 315-473-4444 with the code "STACHE."

Proper management of prostate cancer requires more than the ability to perform an operation. It involves making informed judgments about a complex disease process - from diagnosis to performing active treatment in those who may be considered high-risk. Most importantly, it also includes avoiding unnecessary treatment.

Upstate's Prostate Cancer Team understands this - and so much more. They understand that having highly trained specialists utilizing the latest technology provides patients with the most up-to-date treatment options. They understand the importance of collaboration. That's why they work with the nation's foremost public research institutions that include close partnerships with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). And it's why this team consists of professionals from a host of specialties - including urology, radiation oncology, medical oncology, pathology, surgery, radiology, social work, nursing and psychology - who coordinate care so each patient receives the care that's right for him, delivered by experts in each applied field. Among Upstate's Prostate experts are a group of outstanding, comprehensive, world class researchers studying molecular mechanisms and new treatments for prostate cancer.

Syracuse Crunch single game and season tickets for the 2016-17 season are on sale now and can be purchased either in person at the Crunch office located in the War Memorial Arena at 800 S. State St. in Syracuse or by calling the office at 315-473-4444.
