Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons host the Syracuse Chiefs in a doubleheader from Dunn Tire Park (5:05 p.m.). The Herd struck first in the five-game in four-day series with a 6-2 victory last night. On the mound for Buffalo will be LHP Aaron Laffey and LHP John Koronka. Laffey is looking for his eighth straight win while Koronka is making his DTP debut.

VS. SYRACUSE: The Bisons are 4-2 in the six games against Syracuse this season, including 2-0 at Dunn Tire Park. As a team, the Herd is hitting .316 with five home runs and a .483 slugging percentage against Chiefs' pitching. Infielder Luis Rivas leads all of his teammates with a .440 (11-25) average and eight RBI in his six games against Syracuse.

HE'S NO JOKE: LHP Aaron Laffey is coming of his first no-decision in 11 games this year. Last Friday's effort snapped a streak of seven wins in his last seven games. In eight outings since June 2, Laffey is 7-0 with a 1.53ERA (53.0IP, 44H, 11R, 9ER, 9BB, 47K). Combined with his 4-1 start with Double-A Akron, Laffey's 11 wins and 2.92ERA lead the Indians minor league system.

UN-COOPED: Outfielder Jason Cooper had a clutch two-out RBI-single and a sacrifice fly in last night's win. ‘Coop has driven in eight runs in his last five games. He has now driven in 160 runs in his 270 career games with the team, 9th most in the Bisons Modern Era (1985-on). It's also the third highest total for a left-handed batter (Bill Selby -245, Russell Branyan -202).

COMPLETE EFFORT: The Bisons pitching staff racked up their sixth complete game of the season last night. That's the most the team has had since the 2002 season (8). Today's game one starter, Aaron Laffey, leads the team with two. Jeremy Sowers, Adam Miller, Jeff Harris and Jake Dittler have the other complete games in 2007.

THRUWAY CUP: The Bisons lead the 2007 Thruway Cup Series. The Herd (9-5) is 2.5 games up on second place Rochester (7-8). Syracuse (5-8) is in third place, 3.5 games back.
