Ottawa Lynx News Release
Rochester took both ends of a doubleheader at Lynx Stadium Saturday night. The Lynx and Red Wings hook up again tomorrow afternoon for Gowlings Tribute to the Expos.
The losses drop the Lynx record to 39-59 while Rochester jumps to 53-47.
Lynx Player Of The Day: Joe Thurston had two hits and drove in all three Lynx runs over the two games of Saturday's doubleheader.
Game Recap: GAME 1: Rochester took an early lead with a run in the second inning before the Lynx turned the tabled on the Red Wings with two runs in the bottom of the third. Danny Sandoval earned a walk and moved to third on Chris Roberson's single. Joe Thurston brought them both home with his 2-RBI triple, staking the Lynx to a 2-1 lead. But Rochester took the lead back with a pair of runs in the fifth and held on the rest of the way to win 3-2 in the early game. GAME 2: The Lynx took the early lead in the nightcap, scoring once in the bottom of the third. Randy Ruiz singled, moving to second on Jim Rushford's walk. Carlos Leon moved them both over one base with a sacrifice bunt and Chris Roberson was walked intentionally to load the bases. Thurston cashed Ruiz on a groundout, but the Lynx couldn't muster any more offence. Rochester, on the other hand, put up a pair of runs in both the fourth and seventh inning to take the second game 4-1.
Next Game: The Lynx and Red Wings hook up for a Sunday matinee. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm at Lynx Stadium. Sunday is Gowlings Tribute to the Expos. Former Expos players Oil Can Boyd, Warren Cromartie, Rodney Scott and Claude Raymond will be on hand to sign autographs. They will also team up with a group of media personalities to take on a team of fans. This special three-inning game starts at 10:45 am.
Probable Pitchers: Sunday vs. Rochester, 1:05 pm: Ottawa RHP Matt Childers (5-1, 4.70) takes on Rochester RHP Kevin Slowey (8-2, 1.59).
Fans can venture up to the Upper Deck Sports Bar on the third floor of Lynx Stadium. The Upper Deck features nightly food specials and 30-cent chicken wings available after each Lynx home game!
