Pfeffer was also the first ever "homegrown" player for the Philadelphia Union when he signed on December 22, 2010 at the age of 15 years and 350 days. Pfeffer is the fourth youngest player to ever sign an MLS contract behind Freddy Adu, Faud Ibrahim, and Diego Fagundez. Pfeffer made 30 appearances for the Philadelphia Union between 2011-2015. In 2015, Pfeffer was featured in 21 of the Union's 34 regular season matches starting 11 of them, for 988 minutes-all career highs. Pfeffer was featured in the 2014 and 2015 MLS Homegrown game. He also spent time on loan in the youth system of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim of the German Bundesliga. Pfeffer scored 2 goal in 9 matches while playing for the Hoffenheim U-19 side. He made 4 appearances and scored 1 goal in his time with the Harrisburg City Islanders.

Pfeffer has also spent time in the US Soccer National Team system. He represented the United States at the U-14 and U-15 levels as well as training at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida as part of U.S. Soccer's U-17 residency program. In April 2014, Pfeffer was called up to the U-20 team to take part in the Dallas Cup. He played in four out of the five games, scoring one goal and handed out two assists. He was also one of 19 players called-up to the U.S. U-20 for a September 2014 camp in Argentina. He scored the lone goal in a 1-1 draw with the hosts, Argentina.

Pfeffer was then traded to the Colorado Rapids in January of 2016 in exchange for a pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. Pfeffer has made 16 appearances for Charlotte Independence of the USL this year, recording 546 minutes, 16 shots, and 6 shots on goal.
