FC Montreal News Release

MONTREAL - FC Montreal lost 1-0 against second-placed Louisville City FC on Saturday afternoon at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.

Aodhan Quinn scored the only goal of the game for the visitors.

The best chance of the first half came in the 45th minute, when Alessandro Riggi crossed the ball into the box for Heikel Jarras. The midfielder controlled the ball a few metres away from the net before shooting, but goalkeeper Timothy Dobrowolski made the save.

At the start of the second half, Louisville's top scorer, Chandler Hoffman, got the ball in the box but came up against goalkeeper David Paulmin, who made the save with the tip of his foot as he went to the ground.

Louisville got over it quickly. On a corner kick sent into Montreal's box from the left side, Aodhan Quinn beat the defender to score on a header in the 49th minute.

Montreal almost equalized in the 74th minute. Midfielder Heikel Jarras passed between the defenders to Alessandro Riggi in the box, but his shot hit the side of the net.

"Their biggest strength was their right side with a lot of overlaps and we dealt with that well," said Mele Temguia. "We conceded a goal on a corner and it's due to lack of focus or coverage. We could have been better in the final third also, because we lost many balls too quickly."

"They're a good team. We had a game plan that was respected, but they scored on a set play," said assistant coach Simon Gatti. "It was a balanced game. In terms of attitude, I was happy; the players were fighting non-stop, with Riggi getting a good chance at the end. It's not easy to play nine games in five weeks."

FC Montreal will play its next game on Wednesday, September 7, at 2pm against the Charleston Battery at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.
