Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, Colo. (Wednesday, June 24, 2015) - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC moved into 1st place in the USL Western Conference Wednesday night with a win over the Orange County Blues FC.
Switchbacks FC netted five goals against the OC Blues FC, and kept the clean sheet on route to the 5-0 win. Wednesday night's win also kept Switchbacks FC undefeated in the month of June.
"Finishing up the month of June undefeated is what the guys wanted to do and it's a credit to them they did it," said Switchbacks FC Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "We are halfway through the season and now we have to win the second half."
The goals started early in the 18th minute with Switchbacks FC's Aaron King (#18) put a shot down the left side off of a cross from Mike Seth (#12).
It was King again in the 40th minute with a shot deflected off of Miguel Gonzalez (#10). That took the Switchbacks FC into halftime up 2-0.
Switchbacks FC came out strong again in the second half. Then a penalty in the box in the 57th minute gave Switchbacks FC's Luke Vercollone (#4) his shot at a goal, and calmly scored, putting the Switchbacks FC up 3-0.
Just two minutes later, Seth crossed a pass in front of the goal to Taylor Hunter (#22) and he slid his shot right down the middle into the back of the net.
The fifth and final goal of the night came from a header from Seth thanks to a long pass from Jordan Burt (#25).
"It's a great feeling to be in first place with this win," said Switchbacks FC's Mike Seth. "It's always good to win at home. We're really gelling as a team and that's the most important thing moving into the second half of the season."
Tonight's win was the 6th consecutive home win for Switchbacks FC, and the 4th clean sheet for goalkeeper Devala Gorrick.
"We continued our confident playing and we continue to grow and get better each game," said Switchbacks FC Goalkeeper Devala Gorrick. "The future looks good for us if we continue like this."
Switchbacks FC also honored Shin Harada (#21) tonight. He now joins Luke Vercollone in reaching his 100th match played in the USL.
