Harrisburg, PA (June 25, 2015) - It has been a tough month for the Harrisburg City Islanders. After going a month without losing a game, they have now gone a month without winning one.
They will be looking to stem the tide this Saturday when they invade Blackbaud Stadium to take on the Charleston Battery at 7:30 p.m. It will take something special to bring back the three points from the Palmetto State.
Charleston has only lost two games this season and is undefeated at home. They have had a bit of trouble as of late as they are winless in their last three games but still sit only four points behind league leading Rochester.
Harrisburg had a chance last week to get out of their rut but gave up another last minute goal to let the upset bid slip through their fingers against undefeated Rochester. They are now sitting in seventh with a few games in hand.
Jason Plumhoff has come on strong during the winless streak. He is now the leading scorer on the team. Enric Valles is another bright spot in these last few games. His skill has created a lot of chances for the Islanders offense. Now, they just need to convert on those chances.
In the last game the Islanders had at least four chances to put the Rhinos to bed. Each chance either went just wide or required a game-saving stop by Rochester's keeper. They have shown they can score having scored four and five goals in a single game, but as of late have not been able to convert opportunities.
Charleston started off the season on a tear going undefeated in their first seven games. Since then they have cooled off a bit. They return to Blackbaud on an overall two-game losing streak. Their leading scorer is Dane Kelly with nine points (4G 1A) but have numerous players who can score like Maikel Chang and Haviel Cordoves, both with seven points.
The teams met early on in the 2015 season and the match resulted in a 2-0 loss for the Islanders at Blackbaud Stadium. The Islanders met Charleston three times last season including a 4-1 thumping by the Harrisburg on City Island.
Win, lose or draw the Islanders will be back on the Island on July 4th for an Independence Day celebration including an All-American Cookout, BIMBO soccer scarf giveaway and Happy Hour specials featuring Lagunitas IPA.
