Colorado Springs, CO - The Switchbacks FC played a ten, and then nine, man game for the second half of their match against San Diego Loyal SC, resulting in a final score of 0-3.
The Switchbacks went into the match with an unusual roster due to injuries and illnesses, which included two players from Real Colorado, the Switchbacks academy affiliate. With only one player on the sub list, the team needed to play tight and clean, but frustration got the best of them and resulted in two double yellow cards for Aaron Wheeler and Stevie Echevarria. Duncan Jarvie and Kyler Tate, seventeen and eighteen years old respectfully, made their debuts this evening, joining the team from Real Colorado for the first time this season.
The game started with San Diego taking quick possession of the ball, and after two early yellow cards for the Switchbacks, they were able to get on the board in the 18th and 21st minutes in quick back to back goals. The Switchbacks would drop down to ten men in the 66th minute, after a second yellow card was awarded to #13 Stevie Echevarria, and one minute later San Diego would earn their third and final goal of the night. The Switchbacks would lose another player, #21 Aaron Wheeler, in the 83rd minute, and play with nine men for the remaining minutes of the game.
With three games in just seven days, the name of the game for the team going into Friday's match against Charleston Battery will be rest and recuperation as they look to work their way from No. 2 in the Western Conference back to that No. 1 slot.
The Switchbacks are back at home this Friday as they take on Charleston Battery in our Sea of Cyan Night.
