FC Tulsa Inks 19-Year-Old Christopher Pearson to First Professional Contract
July 19, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - For the second time in the last week, FC Tulsa has signed a midfielder under 20 years old to a professional contract. Christopher Pearson, a 19-year-old from Jamaica standing 6'2'' with international experience, is headed to northeast Oklahoma, pending league and federation approval.
This past June, Pearson capped five times for the Jamaican National Team's U-20 side in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship, a competition serving as U-20 World Cup Qualifying for nations in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Pearson captained his squad in two of those five matches and totaled 436 minutes for his country.
In addition to his time with the U-20 squad, the Montego Bay native was selected three times to the senior "Reggae Boyz" roster during its final window of World Cup Qualifying in March.
Pearson joins FC Tulsa from Cavalier FC of the Jamaican National Premier League where the midfielder made seven appearances, all starts, and scored one goal prior to signing with Tulsa. Previously, Pearson spent four seasons with Kingston College in the Jamaican Schoolboy Football league, a youth league in his home country. He was named the competition's MVP in 2022 after finishing as its leading goalscorer with nine tallies.
"We are ecstatic to be able to add someone of Christopher's caliber to the roster for this season and many seasons to come," said FC Tulsa president Sam Doerr. "He has experience on a big stage with his country and is a physically dominant force. We look forward to his evolution as a pro player and know our fans will enjoy watching him compete."
Pearson is the second midseason acquisition whose age ends in "teen" for FC Tulsa in 2022, joining Luca Sowinski who signed with the club last week, as FC Tulsa continues to add young, dynamic talent to its professional roster.
"I'm absolutely delighted to join this wonderful club," said Pearson. "I'm eager to get the ball rolling and to gain the trust of Tulsa's wonderful fans."
