Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Los Angeles, California - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC came into LA off of three wins, but the streak ended in stoppage time.
The Switchbacks FC lost to fellow USL Western Conference club LA Galaxy II in the final 30 seconds of the match.
The Switchbacks FC were coming off of two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup wins and a win over USL's Arizona United SC. They were hoping to make tonight's match win number four, but that wish didn't come true.
The night started out with Switchbacks FC fans in the stands cheering on the visitors, and the team on the field pushing for points.
They got one of those points in the 16th minute, when Switchbacks FC's Miguel Gonzalez (#10) was able to connect with the back of the net and put the team up 1-0.
However, the momentum changed in stoppage time and LA Galaxy II's Daniel Steres (#44) got past the Switchbacks FC's defense and scored off of a pass from Andre Auras (#63), taking the match into halftime.
In the second half, the Switchbacks FC had several chances, but weren't able to get a goal. The match looked like it would end in a tie until the last 30 seconds when LA Galaxy II's Raul Mendiola (#40) got that coveted goal off of a double assist from Dave Romney (#67) and Jack McBean (#32).
"We did enough to get a result out of this game," said Switchbacks FC Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "But, giving up a goal late in each half hurt us."
The Switchbacks FC head back home to take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at Sand Creek Stadium on Saturday, June 6th at 7 p.m.
