Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville, KY (May 30, 2015) -- In a match that boasted a record attendance of 7, 185 fans, Louisville City (4-1-5, 17 points) battled rivals St. Louis FC (3-3-3, 12 points) to a 1-1 draw in the third installment of the Kings' Cup.
The game got off to a slow start with neither team putting a ball in the net for the entirety of the first half. The second half was a different story.
Five minutes after the break, Kadeem Dacres opened the scoring for Louisville. The midfielder thumped a header off of a beautiful diagonal pass from Charlie Adams.
Louisville City FC came from behind three times on Sunday, but tonight Saint Louis FC would get their chance. In the 69 th minute, the visitors managed to equalize off of a long ball that found Charles Renken, who slotted it past Goodwin. It was the first goal that Louisville had conceded since April 16th versus Rochester.
Both teams were now looking to tack on a game winning goal, and the play got a bit rough. Two yellow cards were given within two minutes; one to Enrique Montano of Louisville, and one to Renken of Saint Louis.
What followed were 20 minutes of hard play, with incredible shots by both teams and equally impressive saves by both keepers. With all 7,185 standing and cheering, City nearly won it with a corner and scrum inside the box. The ball hit the post, and Saint Louis cleared.
The referee blew his whistle shortly after, giving Louisville City FC their fifth draw of the season. The Kings Cup will have to wait until the final regular season match to be decided.
The next few weeks include a slew of away games for Louisville. The team will face off against FC Montreal on June 10 and Rochester on June 13. They then head to Chicago for the fourth round of the US Open Cup against the Chicago Fire. Louisville will have to wait until June 20th before their return to Slugger Field when they take on New York Red Bulls II. Tickets for home games can be purchased online at louisvillecityfc.com.
