May 30, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orange County SC News Release
IRVINE, Calif. - Two of the top teams in USL's Western Conference battled it out on Saturday night at Anteater Stadium, as OC Blues FC and Seattle Sounders FC 2 drew, 1-1, in front of 1,052 in attendance.
In the first half, the visitor's defense held the Blues at bay. OC pressed hard early, but were limited to one shot on goal out of six tries. Seattle took advantage in the 31st minute, as Darwin Jones raced past the Blues' defense and goalkeeper Pepe Miranda to roll the ball into the open net.
After the break, the Blues came out with a renewed spirit. Speedy Mehrshad Momeni made his 2015 debut as a sub and instantly increased the pace. Chino Santana played a beautiful ball to Josh Suggs on the overlap in the 59th minute, but S2 keeper Charlie Lyon was able to save Suggs' shot. On the next possession, Suggs played a ball into the middle to Seung Ju Kim, whose shot went off the crossbar. Orange County equalized in the 70th minute, when Didier Crettenand clinically finished an indirect free kick past Lyon. 5 miuntes later, the Blues were reduced to 10 men, as Suggs was sent off after a rough tackle play. Despite the man advantage, Seattle couldn't find the game winner, the closest being a corner headed by Jones off the top of the cross bar.
With the draw, Orange County moves to 5-3-1, with 16 points, putting them in 3rd place in the Western Conference. Seattle moves to 6-3-2, with 20 points, and hold their top-of-the-table position.
Next up, OC Blues FC hosts LA Galaxy II next Saturday, June 6th, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at Anteater Stadium.
