Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC came back swinging, earning a 3-0 shutout against Las Vegas Lights FC at Weidner Field Friday night.
Both teams started aggressively, with each team making three shots on goal within the opening 10 minutes of the match. In the 11' Las Vegas Lights player had a huge chance as he handled the ball inside the penalty box, resulting in what may have been the save of the game by Switchbacks keeper Jeff Caldwell.
It would take another ten minutes of play, but in the 25' the ball found the back of the net when Hadji Barry dropped the ball back towards Elvis Amoh from the middle of the field and Amoh sent a rocket in from over 18 yards out to hit the bottom right corner of the net.
The second half started with a trio of free kicks, two for Las Vegas Lights, which they were not able to convert, and the third for the Switchbacks. in the 55', #6 Cam Lindley crossed the ball in the final third over to Ngalina, who right footed the ball from outside the box, winging it with a wicked curve to land in the bottom right corner of the net. Only two minutes later, Switchbacks would earn their third and final goal of the net, as a corner kick resulted in #15 Jimmy Ockford heading a pass to Mahoney, who then himself headed the ball in just outside the six-yard box. There would be several more attempts on both sides, but the match would end with that result, and the Switchbacks would win their second match against Las Vegas Lights FC this season.
The Switchbacks will travel to LA next week as they take on LA Galaxy II on Saturday the 11th. They will return to Weidner Field on June 18th as they take on Indy Eleven at our Father's Day celebration match.
