RGV FC Postgame Quotes

Rio Grande Valley FC Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera

Rio Grande Valley FC Defender Stefan Mueller

Rio Grande Valley FC Midfielder Isidro Martinez

RGV FC HC Wilmer Cabrera

On the defensive aspect of the game and what happened that allowed the lone goal...

"It was a counterattack where Stefan [Mueller] cut the goal zone well but Jesus [Vasquez] came from the wrong side of the field, instead of coming from behind, he needed to attack his flank. It opened the possibility for the player to pass the ball and then Wahab [Ackwei] tried to keep pace with Preston Judd. He needed to use his body and unbalance the forward, otherwise, he can finish. Judd finished well, but right there lies the problem, it was one chance that they had and they put it in the net."

On the concern of being unable to keep a clean sheet or manage games defensively lately...

"Listen, we are getting punished too much. It is not like we are horrible or receive waves of attacks. In the past game against Atlanta United ll they had three shots, three goals. If you say, we are making a lot of mistakes, the three shots and three goals situation is concerning. We have to be able to keep our goal at zero, we need to. We are working on it, that is the message to everyone on the team. We need to keep a clean sheet, but today was disappointing. In order for us to be able to the playoffs, we need to have a clean sheet. We need to be able to manage games where we don't receive a goal. Today was a great opportunity to for us to be 0-0, ok we don't win the game but we also don't lose it in that situation."

RGV FC DF Stefan Mueller

On finding a level of consistency as a back line to not give up any smaller chances at goal...

"Yes, that has been our struggle this season. We have played well and dominated games, I felt like we dominated tonight and deserved more out of it. Last match we played well but those lapses in focus are our Achilles heel right now. We play 90 minutes of quality soccer, and we can't give up one chance like that which cost us the game. It comes from us being able to put a game away early as well. The game could have been finished after the first half but unfortunately, we let them back in with one chance. Once we get that figured out, things will really click."

RGV FC MF Isidro Martinez

On the needed adjustment that would have avoided giving up the goal tonight...

"I feel like we had the possession down, but we need to be sharper at the final third to kill games. We showed that we can get into good spots in the first half. In the second half, we showed more of the same. They had that one shot on goal that went in tonight and that was the difference."
