Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks came away with one point at home against first place Vancouver Whitecaps 2 with a 1-1 draw.
In a clash of top teams in the Western Conference, the first half proved to be a battle for both sides. While the Switchbacks appeared to control the majority of the match, both teams had their fair share of first half opportunities. Josh Phillips, in his first match back since his injury on May 27th, was very solid defensively. The two sides would head into the halftime break scoreless.
It wouldn't take long for the Switchbacks to build on their momentum in the second half as Mike Seth would find Miguel Gonzalez in the box who put away the easy goal to give the Switchbacks a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute. Unfortunately the lead wouldn't last long as Brett Levis tore through the Switchbacks back line and put away a well placed ball in the 55th minute to level the score at one. The Switchbacks wouldn't let the goal deter them from pushing forward as the continued to apply pressure on Vancouver. The Switchbacks had numerous opportunities in the second half, out-shooting Vancouver 18-3 in the second half alone. Unfortunately, none of their shots would fall and the match would finish level 1-1 despite a few last second efforts by the Switchbacks.
"That first goal was great," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "Mike had great composure to find Miguel. Other than that, we don't have the composure in the box to finish our chances."
The Switchbacks will now begin their two game road trip as they travel to Portland on Wednesday, August 3rd at 8:30 p.m. MDT. They will then travel to Salt Lake City to Face the Real Monarchs on Monday, August 8th at 7:00 p.m. MDT. Both matches can be seen live at switchbacks.fc.com c_cid4644b85a6a&mc_eid[UNIQID])
