EDINBURG, Texas, July 29- The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (7,5,7) host Sacramento Republic FC 2 (8,6,5) on Saturday, July 30th. This will be the second encounter between the two teams and the Toros will be seeking out revenge after falling 2-3 in the first match. The game will kick off at the H-E-B Park Practice Fields 7:30p.m.
Rio Grande Valley comes back from a hiatus and last faced Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros defeated the Western Conference Leaders 4-0 at home. The Toros found success early on in the first half. RGV's Rob Lovejoy tested the Vancouver goalkeeper, Sean Melvin, early on in the game and came close to finding a goal if it were not for the post. Jose "Memo" Rodriguez scored the first for the Toros when his shot rolled its way to the lower left corner in the 17th minute. Robert "TJ" Casner doubled the Rio Grande Valley lead in the 21st. minute. Rodriguez found his brace in the 40th minute. After collecting the ball, Memo shot a beauty that found its way in the top right corner. The Toros kept possession throughout the game and were rewarded in the last minutes of the game. Emilio Garcia shot on first touch after a Juan Flores assist to give the Toros their fourth goal.
Sacramento Republic FC's last game was also against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. Sacramento Republic FC was defeated 2-1. Cameron Iwasa gave Sacramento the lead in the 14th minute with Daniel Barrera acquiring the assist. Marco Bustos scored for Vancouver in the 22nd goal to bring the game even. The game was not deciding until the last minutes of the game. Thomas Sanner scored the game winner for the host team, Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2, in stoppage time.
This match is the third of five consecutive home games for the Toros. They will next host OKC Energy FC on Saturday, August 6 at 7:30p.m. That match will also be played at H-E-B Park Practice Fields.
