DAVENPORT, IA -- Starting pitcher Mike Parisi scattered nine hits over eight innings and pitched the Swing of the Quad Cities to a 7-1 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Saturday night at John O'Donnell Stadium. Parisi allowed one run, struck out six and walked one for his second win of the season. The Swing are now in first place by 1/2 game over the Rattlers and the Clinton LumberKings in the Midwest League's Western Division.
Quad Cities (28-20) took an early 2-0 lead. Rattler starter Casey Abrams hit two batters in the bottom of the first inning to put runners on first and third with one out. A fielder's choice scored the first run of the game. A double by Derry Hammond knocked in the second.
In the second inning, Matt Shepherd's RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Jarrett Hoffpauir made it 4-0 Swing.
Wisconsin (28-21) broke up the shutout bid with a run in the seventh inning. Asdrubal Cabrera doubled to start the inning. A two-out RBI single by Sebastien Boucher got the Rattlers on the board and cut the lead to 4-1.
But, the Swing plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. A two run double by Simon Williams made it 6-1. Williamd, who had three hits on the night, scored later in the inning on a passed ball.
The loss ended Wisconsin's five game winning streak and when Clinton lost at home to Peoria, the Swing jumped from third to first place in the West. The Rattlers and LumberKings are now tied for second place.
Game three of the series is Sunday night. Mumba Rivera (6-0, 2.53ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Donnie Smith will be making his debut for the Swing. Game time is 7:00pm.
