LAST TIME OUT
MOOSIC, PA (August 9, 2022) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (55-50) defeated the Worcester Red Sox 10-2 on Tuesday evening, improving to a season-high five games over .500. Chris Owings went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
Worcester plated two in the first to take an early lead against RailRiders' starter Matt Krook. The first run scored on a fielder's choice after the bases were loaded following two walks and an error. Jeter Downs then singled home another tally two batters later, but Tyler Wade ended the threat with an outfield assist from left to keep the deficit at 2-0. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre jumped in front with a three-spot in the third. Chris Owings launched his second home run of the season to put the RailRiders on the board. Tyler Wade hit a two-run big fly later in the frame to put SWB in front 3-2. Wade is batting .333 (6-for-18) with two long balls and four RBI over the last week. The RailRiders exploded for five more tallies on six hits in the fourth. Michael Beltre and Owings hit back-to-back RBI doubles to expand the advantage to three runs. A pair of singles from Estevan Florial and Oswaldo Cabrera accounted for the other three runs to make it 8-2.
Phillip Evans and Beltre hit back-to-back solo home runs in the seventh to add two insurance runs and extend the RailRiders' lead to 10-2. Beltre has three extra-base hits since being promoted from Double-A Somerset on August 5. Jose Mujica, Braden Bristo and Luke Bard combined to pitch three shutout innings out of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's bullpen in the 10-2 final. Krook (7-7) tied a team-best with his seventh victory for SWB. Victor Santos (0-1) suffered the loss in his Triple-A debut with Worcester.
