MOOSIC, PA (August 3, 2019) -- The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 11-8 Saturday night at PNC Field. Tyler Wade, Ryan McBroom and Mandy Alvarez all had multi-hit games as the RailRiders pounded 13 hits in the contest. Lehigh Valley got on the board first in the top of the third from a three-run home run by Phil Gosselin. Deivy Grullon added a solo home run in the inning, establishing a 4-0 lead. The IronPigs added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning, extending their advantage 7-0. JoJo Romero worked six scoreless for Lehigh Valley, but allowed back-to-back singles to McBroom and Alvarez in the bottom of the seventh. Fernando Salas was brought in from the bullpen and allowed a three-run home run to Gosuke Katoh, cutting the IronPigs lead to 7-3.

In the top of the eighth, Lehigh Valley answered with four runs against Will Carter to extend their advantage to 11-3. In the bottom of the inning, Alvarez smacked a three-run home run to left off Salas to get the RailRiders to 11-6. Wade provided a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to cut the IronPigs lead to 11-8, but the rally came up short as Edgar Garcia closed out the game. Romero (3-2) picked up the win for Lehigh Valley, working 6-plus innings and allowing two runs, while Brody Koerner (4-2) was charged the loss for the RailRiders.

LOTS OF FACES: When RHP Janson Junk and RHP Daniel Bies both appeared in Friday's series-opener against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, they became the 65th and 66th players to play in a game for the RailRiders this season. That brings the total to 32 position players and 34 pitchers, which is still shy of the record of 75 players used in games by the 2015 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. By comparison, last year's team featured 69 players and 2017 featured 65.

WADE RETURNS: Tyler Wade officially went to the New York Yankees July 28 - August 2, and has reported back the RailRiders lineup prior to Saturday's game against the IronPigs and went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI as the starting shortstop. In the only game in which he appeared for the Yankees, he came off the bench for an injured Luke Voit. He cracked a solo homer off Yoan Lopez in the 8th inning a 4-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, which was the first home run of the season in 21G/51 AB with the Yankees and just the second of his MLB career.

FORD FIESTA: With a couple more shots over the last week, Mike Ford has extended his team lead in home runs to 23 and in RBI to 60. A season ago, the RailRiders had Ford lead the team in RBI with 52, and was looking to eclipse the 70-RBI mark over the last month of the season before getting promoted to the big leagues with the injury to Edwin Encarnacion. The last time a RailRiders batter had more than 70 RBI in a season was seven years ago when Brandon Laird drove in 77 runs, and the year before Jorge Vazquez eclipsed the 80-RBI mark by driving in 93 runs. Last season's team had 6 players with more than 30+ RBI and 3 with over 40+ RBI. The 2019 RailRiders currently have 8 players with 30+ RBI and 4 with 40+ RBI. Additionally, a season ago the team leader in runs scored for SWB was Ryan McBroom with 49, but this year there are three players already with 50+ runs: McBroom, 66 R // Mike Ford, 59 R // Trey Amburgey, 56 R

A QUICK PROJECTION: Saturday featured a loss by the RailRiders (63-49, .563) and a win by the team closest to them in the IL North standings, the Buffalo Bisons (58-54, .518). Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has 28 games to go in the regular season and holds a 5.0-game lead on the Bisons for first place (the largest lead this season was +8.0 GB June 20 following Game No. 70). That means if the RailRiders were to go 14-14 (.500) the rest of the way, the Bisons would need to go 19-9 (.679) to catch them in the division. However, these two teams play four games over four days at PNC Field to wrap-up the regular season leading into Labor Day.

MAKING MOVES: With 28 games remaining in the regular season, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders are keeping up their torrid pace... of roster moves. As the calendar turns to August, SWB had made 232 total moves (April, 44 | May, 64 | June, 59 | July, 66) which is far ahead of last season's pace in which the RailRiders had made 207 total moves through July (April, 36 | May, 53 | June, 43 | July, 76) in a year in which they made 275 roster moves (1.99 moves/game) during the regular season. SWB has now made 244 and is averaging 2.16 moves/game this season and is on pace for 303 roster moves through the end of the year.
