Sutter Leaving to Pursue Other Interests

Lethbridge, AB - Lethbridge Hurricanes GM/Head Coach Rich Preston announced today that Rich Sutter, Canes Assistant to the GM/Hockey Operations will be leaving the hockey club to pursue other interests.

"Rich Sutter is a long time friend and his hard work, dedication and expertise have been a great help to both myself and the Lethbridge Hurricanes organization." said Preston "We would like to wish him all the best in his future endeavors."

Sutter is a local with several ties to hockey in Lethbridge with experience at the pro and major junior level and is an inductee to the Hurricanes/Broncos Hall of Fame. He played three straight seasons with the Lethbridge Broncos from 1980-1983 and notched 177 points, 98 goals and 718 penalty minutes in 193 games and along with his twin brother, Ron would help to lead the Broncos to the 1982-1983 WHL Championship and a berth in the Memorial Cup. In 1982, he and his brother became the third and fourth straight of the Sutter brothers to be drafted in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft. Rich was an NHL journeyman playing seven different NHL teams in 874 NHL games. During that time he had 315 points, 149 goals and 1411 penalty minutes. Prior to the 2009-10 season he spent the 2008-09 season as a Coaching Consultant with the Canes. His son, Lukas is a prospect of the Saskatoon Blades and recently completed in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tourney in the Czech Republic as a member of Team USA.
