Surge Fall Short 8-2 on Saturday Night

Springfield, MO- Five errors and seven base runners stranded in scoring position snapped Wichita's three game win streak as they fell short to the Cardinals 8-2 on Saturday night.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of a solo home run from Mike Antico. Antico finished two for five with three RBIs in the game.

Springfield added another run in the bottom of the third inning as Irving Lopez scored on a throwing error by Surge catcher Jair Camargo to give the Cardinals a 2-0 advantage.

Brent Headrick made his eighth appearance and sixth start on the mound for Wichita this season and pitched five innings, allowing three runs on five hits, and adding seven strikeouts. Blayne Enlow took over on the mound in the sixth inning.

The Surge got on the board in the seventh inning as Ernie Yake hit an RBI single to score DaShawn Keirsey Jr. and cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Cardinals added two insurance runs in the seventh inning Masyn Winn hit an RBI single to score a run and Jordan Walker followed with a double to score Winn and stretch the lead to 5-1.

Springfield busted the game open in the eighth inning as Robinson and Antico hit back-to-back RBI singles to give the Cardinals a commanding 8-1 lead.

The Surge cut the deficit to 8-2 in the ninth inning as Keirsey Jr. hit a sacrifice fly to score Yunior Severino.

Wichita remains in first place with a six game lead and 13 games to play.

Notes: Jair Camargo ended his hit streak at seven games, Yunior Severino extended his hit streak to eight games... Keirsey Jr. tallied his team-leading 36th and 37th stolen base and is tied for the Texas League Lead. The five errors matches a season high in a game.

Coming Up: The Wind Surge will resume action against the Springfield Cardinals in the series finale tomorrow, September 4th for a 6:05 first pitch. Daniel Gossett will get the start on the mound for the Surge and Edgar Escobar will take the hill for Springfield. The game will be carried by radio ESPN Wichita 92.3, MiLB.com and Windsurge.com
