Atlantic City Surf News Release

Nashua, N.H. -- Atlantic City SS Anthony Granato went a combined 5-for-5, while Surf starters Brian Rodaway and J.C. Huguet put forward solid performances, as the visitors swept a doubleheader, 6-0 and 4-1, from the Nashua Pride in a pair of Can-Am League contests at Holman Stadium on Monday evening.

In the evening's first game, the Surf built a quick 1-0 lead when Granato led off the game with a solo home run. He drove in two more in the third with his second home run of the evening.

Atlantic City then engineered a two-run fifth on four singles by Granato, CF Josh Burrus, 1B Eddie Kim and RF Heath Keel, who was appearing in his first game for the team, as the Surf's lead increased to 5-0. Atlantic City's sixth run came in the seventh inning on DH William Plaza's RBI double.

It was more than enough support for starter Brian Rodaway (10-8), who pitched a seven-inning complete-game shutout, limiting the Pride to six hits while striking out eight. The Surf knocked around Nashua starter Hideki Nagasaka (8-6), who allowed 12 hits in six and two-thirds innings of work for the loss.

Granato, whose two dingers put him in the team lead with 11, led the Surf attack with a 4-for-4 game, while Burrus and Kim chipped in with two hits apiece. For the Pride, CF Ervin Alcantara and 3B Mike Torres both went 2-for-3.

Game Two saw Atlantic City put a pair on the board with second-inning RBI singles from DH Jason Hurst and LF Joe Burke. The Surf added to their lead in the fourth on another run-scoring single from Hurst, and made it 4-0 in the fifth when Keel ran home on a wild pitch. Nashua scored its only run of the evening on Torres' home run to lead off the Pride's half of the fifth.

Keel spearheaded the Atlantic City offense by going 3-for-4 with three doubles and two runs scored. Hurst and 3B Gil Zayas both went 2-for-3, while Granato was 1-for-1 with two walks and a hit by pitch. No Nashua player had more than one hit in the nightcap.

Huguet (9-7) earned the victory, limiting the Pride to a run on two hits in five innings pitched. Nashua starter John Tesseyman (0-1) picked up the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits in three innings.

With the victories, the Surf (23-17) stay in third place in the second-half standings, one game behind both Quebec and Sussex. Atlantic City also enters into a tie with Worcester for third place in the Can-Am League's overall standings, one game behind second-place Sussex. The Surf also run their record against Nashua (16-24) to 10-1 this season.

The two teams meet for the third game of the five-game set on Tuesday evening, with Atlantic City's Adam Cox (7-2) facing Nashua's Lance Stevens (6-7).
