Caraballo, Simard Can-Am League Players Of The Week

DURHAM, NC - The official statistician of the Can-Am League, PA SportsTicker, has selected Worcester Tornadoes OF Francisco Caraballo and Quebec Capitales RHP Michel Simard as the Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week.
Caraballo batted .571 with four home runs, 10 RBI and a 1.190 slugging percentage in six games for Worcester. He collected 12 hits, including one double, scored seven runs, stole two bases and had on-base percentage of .625. Caraballo is currently batting .305 with 20 home runs and 66 RBI. He is tied for the league lead in home runs, second in RBI and slugging percentage (.575), tied for second in triples (5) and tied for fourth in extra base hits (41).
The 24-year-old was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Houston Astros in February of 2001. He spent the previous seven seasons in the Astros organization.
Simard hurled a complete game shutout in the 2-0 victory over the Sussex Skyhawks Thursday. He allowed one walk and four hits while fanning nine batters. Simard is now 12-2 on the year with a 2.46 ERA. He is second in the Can-Am in wins and ERA and fourth in strikeouts with 91.
The 26-year-old was a 25th round selection of the Los Angeles of Anaheim in 2002. He pitched four seasons in the Angels organization before joining Quebec in 2007. Last season, Simard went 9-8 with a 3.53 ERA in 127 1/3 innings pitched.
