Caraballo garners honors

DURHAM, NC - The official statistician of the Can-Am League, PA SportsTicker, has selected Worcester Tornadoes OF Francisco Caraballo as the Teamline Direct Batter of the Week for the week of August 18-24.

Caraballo batted .571 with four home runs, 10 RBI and a 1.190 slugging percentage in six games for Worcester. He collected 12 hits, including one double, scored seven runs, stole two bases and had on-base percentage of .625. Caraballo is currently batting .305 with 20 home runs and 66 RBI. He is tied for the league lead in home runs, second in RBI and slugging percentage (.575), tied for second in triples (5) and tied for fourth in extra base hits (41). The 24-year-old was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Houston Astros in February of 2001. He spent the previous seven seasons in the Astros organization. This is Caraballo's second Batter of the Week award of 2008, as he also received the honor for the first week of the season, May 22-25. The Tornadoes have now garnered six weekly awards on the season (4 Batters of the Week and 2 Pitchers of the Week), tying them with Quebec for the most weekly awards on the year.
