Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, MA (August 25, 2008) - OF Dennis Abreu hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and followed it up with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to account for both of Brockton's runs in a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Rapidz on Monday night at Campanelli Stadium. RHP Wayne Lundgren suffocated the Rapidz all night, dealing eight innings and allowing one run on eight hits for his 10th win of the year.
The Rox and Rapidz combined for 16 hits on the night but scratched across only three combined runs. Lundgren lasted eight innings for the fifth time in his last seven starts. Only once in the game did he allow more than one base runner in an inning. Six times, he faced four or fewer batters to get three outs.
Abreu led the Rox offense on the night, joining OF Jud Thigpen as the two Rox starters with two hits in the game. 2B Melvin Falu recorded his 131st hit of the season, four shy of the league record with seven games to play.
Rox closer RHP Jerry Dunn recorded his league-leading 24th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
Brockton and Ottawa continue the series on Tuesday night when RHP Mike Smith (2-0, 4.35 ERA) faces LHP Mike Kusiewicz (3-8, 4.59 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
