
Surf Split Doubleheader with Pennsylvania

The Atlantic City Surf (12-12) came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Pennsylvania Road Warriors (5-19) 5-2 in game two of the day-night doubleheader on Tuesday night in front of an announced crowd of 1404 at the Sandcastle. The big inning for the Surf came in the sixth when Ozzie Timmons blasted a long solo shot to left field. Emison Soto followed up with a double and later scored on a double off the bat of Trey Beamon. Ric Johnson, who pinch hit for Willy Ruiz, singled to score Beamon. Brian Simmons then singled to score Johnson to give the Surf a 4-2 lead. The Surf added insurance in the bottom of the eighth on a passed ball by Tim Burton to plate Brandon Jackson.
Surf starter Rene Vega, who started the his first game of the year, pitched a solid five innings allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out eight. Road Warriors hurler Julian Heredia threw 5.2 innings, giving up four earned runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out five. Surf reliever Anthony Shelby picked up his first win of the season. Randi Mallard picked up his league leading seventh save. The two teams will finish the series Wednesday night at the Sandcastle at 6:35 p.m.
