May 27, 2003 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors managed only one run in the top of the first inning of Elmira starter Brian Edmondson and Elmira scored eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings of Ambassador starter Chris Zallie to win the game 8-1.

It started well for the Ambassadors, who had Jorge Diaz score on a Brian Jones passed ball in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Diaz had singled to lead-off the game. But that would be all the Ambassadors would get off Brian Edmondson, who pitched for two seasons in the Major Leagues back in 1998 and 1999 with Atlanta and Florida. Edmondson pitched all nine innings to get his first win of the season, striking out seven in the process, and only giving up one fly ball out. All of the strikeouts were looking, which caused some consternation among the Ambassadors. Ender Gonzalez was thrown out in the top of the eighth inning after he struck out looking and argued the call.

Elmira got five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off Zallie. The inning began with Ryan Lehr flying out to left and ended with Lehr popping out to first, but in between the Pioneers did the damage. Catcher Brian Jones singled, then first-baseman Ricky Morton and right fielder Scott Hunter hit back-to-back home runs. Zallie got another, but then walked two, committed a throwing error, and gave up a double to shortstop Cleatus Davidson to score two more. In the bottom of the fifth Zallie gave up back-to-back singles to score one run, and then a two run home run to left-fielder Rafael Alvarez. Orlando Encarnacion and Carlos Gomez finished the game for the Ambassadors without allowing any more runs.

Jorge Diaz was the lone Ambassador to have much success at the plate, as he went 2-4 with a run scored. Elmira had a busy night at the plate, pounding out ten hits, including a 3-4 night from Hunter, along with two RBI, and a 2-4 evening from Davidson, who also had an RBI.

Tim Davidson starts tomorrow for the Ambassadors, he'll face Dan Head in the last game of the series and road trip for the Ambassadors. They¹ll be home on Friday night to face Berkshire for a the start of a six game homestand.
