Atlantic City Surf News Release
The Atlantic City Surf have announced that attendance numbers are up 14 percent this season compared to the 2001 season through 43 openings. This year, 100,604 fans have passed through the Sandcastle gates against 88,046 fans through the same amount of openings last year.
The Surf have been powered by a solid July in which they have averaged about 3,000 fans along with publicity from new additions to the team.
On July 4th, a Sandcastle-record 6,780 fans turned out to watch the Surf take on the Long Island Ducks and the only Independence Day Fireworks show in the Atlantic City area.
The Surf have gained large amounts of local and national publicity in July after naming former major league reliever Mitch "Wild Thing" Williams as the third manager in Surf history on July 1. Atlantic City also recently signed former major leaguer and Williams' ex-teammate Pete Incaviglia as a player/coach, giving the squad more flair from that colorful 1993 National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies team.
Stories about Williams and Incaviglia have appeared in such publications as the New York Daily News, Philadelphia Inquirer, ESPN.com, and the Star-Ledger. Comcast Sports-Net, CN8, and even ABC Nightline have also featured pieces on the Surf.
"We are happy that more people are coming out to the ballpark this season," said Surf general manager Mario Perrucci. "We hope the fans will continue to enjoy the most affordable family entertainment in the area."
